Wooddale Fire Station

Project Size: 8,200 sq. ft.
Completed: December 2012

The one-story fire station employs sustainable and energy saving designs concepts that reflect its site and surrounding context in an exemplary manner.

The design team introduced a simple yet elegant rotation in the floor plan that respects a presence inherently needed by two non-perpendicular street frontages and a predominantly north/south oriented context. This powerful design rotation also affords picturesque views of the site’s mature oak grove to the northwest where the firemen can barbeque, direct alignment for the unconditioned apparatus bay to passively cool through cross ventilation of the prevailing southeastern winds, and an added bonus of a less severe turning radius for the truck drivers.

GHA has made a commitment to the promotion and practice of sustainable design. We encourage all of our clients, regardless of their interest in seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification, to incorporate sustainable materials into their design. This commitment is underscored by the design of our corporate office located on Government Street in Baton Rouge.

Currently GHA's company roster includes three LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP): architect Jerry Hebert, intern architect David Hebert and interior designer Ashley Ferrand. Read more >
